TOP PHOTO: Dave Smith writes, "That's my tent at Wildflecken
in 1965. I did a lot of camping in Scouts prior to the Army,
and my Scout tent was a large tarp with tabs that could be set
up several ways. At Wildflecken on this occasion, I was not paired
with anyone, so with my poncho and shelter half I made this tent
configuration (top photo). I did other variations, all of which
led the Lieutenant (Annan) to say, 'Can't Smith make normal tents
like other people?'"
MIDDLE & BOTTOM PHOTOS: This tent and gear display involved
the Davy Crockett Section of the 3/36 Inf for the purpose of
German-American Day at Ayers Kaserne. In the bottom photo, that's
Sp4 Washington kneeling in the foreground, with SFC Rose standing
behind the tent.
