1955: Recruiting Drive in Indianapolis, IN

On July 2, 1955, a 3rd Armored Division Proclamation
Ceremony was held at the World War Memorial Building in Indianapolis,
Indiana. This was the beginning of an intensive recruiting program
designed to bring the Division up to the required strength of
16,000 troops for Operation Gyroscope, in which Spearhead would
replace the U.S. 4th Infantry Division in NATO's critical defensive
