1954 & 1949: Targeting by 3AD Troops at Ft. Knox

 

Top Photo: 1954 - the water-cooled Browning .30 cal had been the Army's main battalion level machine gun in World War II and Korea. It was replaced in 1957 with the M60, which first reached 3AD troops in Germany in 1958.

Bottom Photo: 1949 - the venerable .30 cal M1 Garand was the standard U.S. infantry rifle during 1936-1957. It was replaced by the M14, which first reached 3AD troops in Germany in 1958.
