Kibler wrote: "This was east of Stolberg,
Germany, where the 3rd Armored Div. was headquartered. Jim Lowe
and I were on patrol along the northeast edge of the Hurtgen
Forest. We were watching these four 3rd Armored tanks attack
this pillbox, which had command of a wide area. These four tanks
rushed it, firing as they advanced. Two went close and, when
we took this picture, there were 25 Jerries surrendering with
a big white flag. They were already out of the pillbox."
NOTE: The yellow arrow points to the pillbox, and, what appear
to be several tanks, are to its lower left in an open area. Due
to the grainy quality of the original print, an extreme enlargement
did not make the Germans visible, nor did it make the tanks more
distinct. |
