Since 1945, Russ has returned to Germany several times,
with the most recent trip in 1994 shown below. The occasion was
the opening to the public of the Nordhausen underground factory
complex that, in World War II, had been used for the assembly
of V1 & V2 rockets and other military materials. Above ground,
the infamous Nordhausen slave-labor camp had been used to supply
most of the laborers for the underground facilities. The 3rd
Armored Division captured the underground facility in April,
1945, and liberated the camp. At the 1994 event, many survivors
of the camp, as well as its American liberators, were in attendance.
