Pool is seen in the above photo seated on the turret of his M4A1 Sherman named "In The Mood" in Liege, Belgium, on September 8, 1944. On that day, the 3rd Armored Division liberated Liege after four years of German occupation. When the streets were finally safe, many of its citizens came out dressed in their Sunday best.

Pool's crew through France, Belgium, and to the Siegfried Line where the following soldiers:

      • Pfc. Wilbert Richards, driver
      • Cpl. Bert Close, co-driver and machine gunner
      • Cpl. Willis Oller, gunner
      • T/5 Del Boggs, loader
