Historic town flag is backdrop for speakers.

  This tattered and treasured Stars & Stripes, which hung behind the podium, shows the effects of flying at Middletown City Hall during all of World War II, day and night, regardless of the weather. The approximately 4x6-foot flag was never taken down, between the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and the Japanese surrender in August, 1945.
