A Salute to Gen. Rose

Photo below: Army WWII vet Jim Tobits (left) and Marine Vietnam vet Marty Reardon, Sr., both of Middletown, salute as bugler John McLeod (off camera) plays "Taps". Tobits served with the 816th Engineer Aviation Bn. of the U.S. Army Airforce during 1940-45, building air fields in France & Germany in 1944-45 as fast as U.S. troops could secure the land. But on some occasions, Tobits reports, his unit was still under fire from pockets of German gunners.

Photo above: Flag bearers from the Antique Veterans of Meriden (CT) are assembled for the outdoor ceremony. The first five vets from left to right are Tracy Downs (Navy Seabee, WWII), Ray Petrosky (Air Force, Cold War), Ken Dow (Navy, WWII, Pacific), Walt Pawluck (Army, WWII, Europe & POW), and Al Calvi (Army, WWII, Bastogne defender in the Battle of the Bulge).
