School in The Netherlands named after Gen. Rose in 1978
See caption below.

In conjunction with Memorial Day ceremonies on May 27, 1978, at Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, a local school was rededicated as Maurice Rose School. Holding the left corner of a scroll attesting to the Dedication is Mireillel F. Haans, the student who originated the idea of naming the school after a soldier buried at Margraten. The scroll includes the phrase in Dutch that "the naming is done to establish a continuing link between the valiant deeds of the American soldiers and the future represented by the school."

Update in Sept., 2004: Our website correspondent in The Netherlands, Mr. Dennis Reijnders, reports that the school is listed in the Margraten phone directory as follows:

R.K. Basisschool "Maurice Rose"
President Kennedystr. 2
6269 CC Margraten

The address is within walking distance from the cemetery and on a very appropriate street - President Kennedy Street. Dennis also reports that "R.K. Basisschool" in Dutch means Roman Catholic Elementary School.
