The special visitor above was Wolf Koltermann,
formerly Hauptman (Captain) Koltermann, Commander, 3rd Company,
507th Heavy Panzer Battalion, who played a key role in the ambush
and decimation of much of Task Force Welborn near Hamborn on
the evening of 3/30/45. It was also one of his tank platoons
that moved eastbound on Dorenhagener Strasse from Kirchborchen,
lead by the King Tiger Tank that blocked Rose's jeep. The identity
of the crew member of that tank who shot Rose remains unknown
today by journalists or news media. Koltermann's skill and aggressiveness
as a combat commander was well documented by the co-authors of
General Rose's biography, published in 2003. |
