In the town of Louvroil, France, south of Maubeuge,
on September 2, 1944, members of the French Resistance (FFI)
have boarded the lead 3AD Sherman tanks to guide them through
town and across a bridge over the Sambre river. The FFI had previously
prevented the Germans from blowing up the bridge, which was only
a few miles from Belgium. On the following day, the entire 3AD
would be engulfed in the Battle of Mons. |
