- (1) Sp4 Leopold's gung-ho spirit started early, as seen in
this 1945 photo of him as a "Greatest Generation" wannabe.

(3) A portrait of Paul in uniform by Bud Lee in 1965.
(4) In Paul's words: "The photo of me in civvies at a
table was taken by Bud at a gasthaus, Die Schöne Aussicht
(or Beautiful View) in Bonames (the village just north of Drake-Edwards)
in 1966. When I was back in the early 70's, the view -- out to
the distant Taunus mountains -- was already spoiled by apartment
houses. The whole area may be densely urban by now."
(5) In Paul's words: "This was taken in southern France
in July, 1966, after separation from the Army. Traces of former
insignia are still visible on the field jacket (I wonder where
it is now?). Behind me is part of the (ruined) castle of Beynac."
