(1 & 2) Joe on a sub-freezing field exercise in Germany in 1966, and in 1996 as a Senior U.S. Border Patrol agent assigned to the Van Buren, Maine, office.

(3) On leave in December, 1965, after completing Basic Training at Ft. Dix, NJ, and shown at his parents' grocery store in Fort Kent, Maine.

(4) Portrait taken shortly after the start of Army basic training at Ft. Dix in 1965.

(5) Joe as a Trooper with the Maine State Police in 1969. This was taken outside the National Guard Armory in Augusta, Maine, where Trooper graduation had just taken place. Joe is standing next to his police cruiser holding his graduation certificate. He was a Trooper for about 20 months before applying for and being accepted to work for the U.S. Border Patrol.

(6) This is Joe in 2002, 5 and 1/2 years after retirement, in his computer room. In the background are parts of his patch & pin collection, and several memorabilia from his past. He's wearing his favorite T-shirt, which says, "IF YOU LIKE YOUR FREEDOM, THANK A VETERAN."
